It has both composite video input as well as chroma and luma inputs. The monitor has much better resolution than a color television. I found that the chroma/luma inputs gave slightly sharper resolution than the composite input. If you want to run a VT100 emulator in simulated 80 column mode, a monitor is the only way to go. You should have no problem with a 130XE, but 800XL owners should be aware that a connection is missing internally when trying a chroma/luma hookup. I think the index-hole in the disk is needed for formatting. But why can the 1050 format the second side? There could be a number of problems with making disk load files from cassette boot tapes. BUT, if memory conflicts with DOS are the problem, Have you tried one of the 'Menu Maker' programs that justs puts a small loader in memory, no DOS, and then you boot and choose a letter from the menu? You know what I'm talking about? The 'Menu Maker' program just puts a very small loader program someplace low or non-conflicting in memory. It is generally used to make a games disk with several games that then load from a a, b, c, d, e choice menu.
