When DOS II came out, format enhanced was a mute point since the 1050 hadn't seen the light of day yet. The jump to the binary load routine is a no no too. There's legal ways of binary loading a file from basic, but that particular USR() isn't one of them. The ROM OS of the Atari only supports XIO type commands through XIO 16 or 17 (Fill?) if I recall correctly, and all of those do not have meaning to all devices. Everything added from a bootable handler like the RS232 or D: is supposed to stick to those standards, but Atari left the door open by saying something to the effect anything above the ROM ones are defined by the handler. It's almost like the same situation that occured with memory upgrades. There were Axlon, Bucholtz, ??? upgrades that all used their own banking schemes. We didn't get anything close to a standard until the 130XE came out. The way it was left open, if for example you wanted to write something like PBI handler you could use any numbers you wanted. IMO: I *wish* Atari would have forseen some of the likely enhancements. Even if they didn't want to write a MyDOS/SD themselves, at least they could have brought some order to the issue. For the most part, as long as people still use DOS II you've pretty much got to lay off stuff like XIO 40 or 39. Who knows why they switched keyboards... IMHO they finally got it halfway right with the Mega STE keyboards... although after using this "other" one, I've found the STE keyboard is a bit small on the keys.. I'd like to try one of those curved keyboards and see if they are comfortable... :) Amethyst -- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: "Jewel of the Night" Danville, IL 217/446/9294 (1:2460/3) Empfaenger : /FIDO/ATARI (Sherri Thomas) Absender : Erney Finch @ 2:271/1701 Betreff : Keyboards Datum : Mi 22.02.95, 00:51 (erhalten: 25.02.95) Groesse : 461 Bytes ------------------------------ My wife didn't say anything when the first computer came home, she just shot me a look that said more than words could.
